The Alexandra Pool returned to normal operations this week after a lifeguard shortage and staff absences force it to reduce opening hours.

Central Otago District Council aquatics manager Carly Getson said the availability of more staff had allowed the pool to resume 6am openings.

‘‘It’s been a hard time for us, but we are excited to be getting back to normal. We are still seeing a high number of staff sickness, and there might be the odd occasion when we will need to close early if we can’t find cover.’’

‘‘Providing a safe environment continues to be paramount for our users and staff,’’ she said.

Updates of early closures or changes to operations will be posted to the council’s website and Facebook page.
