Big box retailers The Warehouse and Noel Leeming are set to open their doors in Wanaka.

The stores, both owned by the Warehouse Group, will open in the Three Parks commercial precinct and employ 65 staff.

The Warehouse Group chief store operations officer Ian Carter said he was ‘‘thrilled’’ to be bringing the well-known brands to the resort town.

“It’s more important than ever that Kiwis have access to good quality and affordable groceries,” Mr Carter said.

As well as homewares, clothing and outdoor living essentials, The Warehouse would also be stocking essential grocery items such as milk, butter and flour, he said.

Tech giant Noel Leeming’s store would feature an ‘‘extended range’’ of technology, whiteware and appliances as well as a builtin cooking centre and services hub.

The stores will open on Thursday, October 12, and the first 300 customers — 200 at The Warehouse, and 100 at Noel Leeming — will receive a goody bag and cupcakes.

Between October 12 and 15, the Wanaka Toy Library, Riding for the Disabled, Scouts Group and Parents and Friends of Mount Aspiring College will be hosting sausage sizzles outside the store. The Warehouse will match all funds raised across the four days.
