A lifestyle of discipline has paid off for Alexandra woman Mikayla Wilson.

She is an advertising consultant during the day, but the remainder of her time is taken up with her passion bodybuilding.

The 25-year-old achieved success at the New Zealand International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness South Island Championships Figure Pro Qualifier in Christchurch last month.

Wilson competed in two categories: wellness short, and figure short, claiming first place in the wellness section and second in the figure section.

She then went on to take out the overall wellness title.

“It was very emotional. It was very overwhelming,” she said.

“The difficulty I’ve overcome through, all the hard work and pain was worth it.”

Wilson started preparing in May, with the original competition date scheduled for September.

However, uncertainty around Covid-19 Alert Levels resulted in the date being pushed back to Labour Weekend.

In that time Wilson also moved from Christchurch to Central Otago, started a new job and bought a house while maintaining her strict pre-competition gym and diet.

Wilson heads into her off-season now before next year’s bodybuilding shows.
