Wanaka motorcycle racing team Helicraft Racing has confirmed a new member for the 2022-23 road-racing season.

Jesse Stroud (19), of Hamilton, will be contesting the New Zealand 300 Supersport Championship and other selected events, joining Supersport 600 class rider Seth Devereux, of Cromwell.

‘‘I was really impressed with Jesse when he filled in for us at the New Zealand Grand Prix meeting in April,’’ Helicraft team owner Rod Price said. ‘‘He left me in no doubt about his ability that weekend. ‘‘I like his attitude. ‘‘He’s a racer, he’s a winner and he doesn’t back down.’’ The team completed a successful club day at Levels, in Timaru, last Saturday. ‘‘Jesse rode eight races on our Yamaha 300 and got down to near lap›record pace.’’ Price was also impressed with how well Stroud gelled with Devereux, winner of the recent New Zealand 600 Grand Prix title.

‘‘He’s a listener and open to advice. I think we have a good balance going into next season.’’

Devereux was also in good form at Levels, taking four wins from four races on the team’s MV Agusta 675.

He also achieved his day’s goal of setting a sub-1min 6sec lap time, posting a best of 1min 5.7sec.

‘‘A winter’s day, cold track, old tyres… yes, I’ll take that,’’ Devereux said.
