Malcolm Fleming and Gina Jones of Greytown cross the historic Ophir Bridge on Saturday in a 1957 MGA Convertible as part of the 2022 Classic Alpine Tour.

Jeff Williams of Arrowtown, who organises the tour alongside Paul Halford of Auckland, said this was the third of the tours, which head out of Queenstown every two years, and the first to include Maniototo roads.

The tour aimed at attracting sports and GT cars of European origin (including British) from the period post World War 2 up until 1979 that were of limited production and unique design features.

Forty-two cars from around the country took part this year, Mr Williams said, with many of the drivers new to these roads.

The tour stopped in Naseby for a lunch organised by the Lions Club of Maniototo on the Saturday, which included raffles to fundraise to send the New Zealand Curling Association’s junior men’s team to the World Junior A Competitions in Jonkoping, Sweden, from May 15 to 22.
