Long-standing Alexandra Golf Club member Audrey Roberts scored an ace on the par-3 12th hole on Saturday, her second hole-in-one on the same hole in 22 years.

Mrs Roberts, who was playing off a 29 handicap, used a 5-iron from the tee to earn her Stableford points on her way to a successful round, winning the competition with 42 Stableford points.

Mrs Roberts and her husband, Bruce, first joined the Alexandra club in 1984 and were members for 14 years, then they took a 14-year walkabout stint after she and her husband sold their joinery business, before returning to Alexandra for the past nine years.

She said on Tuesday that her only other ace in her golfing career was on the same hole, when she was visiting the Alexandra club in June 2000 while a member of the Queenstown club.

She and Bruce played about twice a week despite both being about to turn 82, she said.

“I think everyone is making a big fuss because of my age.

“But it keeps us going.”
