Athletics coach Michael Beable celebrates the success of Mount Aspiring College relay team members (from left) Niamh Townsend (14), Scarlett Norman (15), Abby Fisher (15), Estelle Gellatly (13) and Georgie Bruce (15), after they won their 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m events at the recent national championships in Wellington.

Estelle, Abby, Georgie and Niamh won the 4 x 100m relay in a time of 51.69sec. However, the team was even faster in the preliminary round, own Otago record with a time of 50.69sec.

Estelle, Georgie and Abby teamed up with Scarlett in the 4 x 400m relay, which they completed in 4min 18.16sec to claim another first place.

Beable said he was impressed by the girls’ performances, particularly as they had some challenging weather conditions to contend with, including “atrocious winds and torrential rain”.
