Experienced and novice players take part in an open tournament at the Alexandra Petanque Club on Sunday. Former club captain Liz Baxter said 42 players attended, making 14 teams of triples, for the day’s games. ‘‘You didn’t have to be affiliated with Petanque New Zealand to play. You could be a complete novice and still play,’’ she said. The decision to play in triples was so more experienced players could help those new to the game, she said. ‘‘It’s a fun game. It can be really skilful if you take it to the next level, but it is just good fun to play.’’ PHOTO: LIZ BAXTER
