Planning for a pump track has been under way since Te Kura o Take Karara opened in Wanaka’s Three Parks development in 2020.
A group of pupils were involved in the design process and some of their ideas were included in the final layout by track builders Dirt Dynamics.
School principal Jodie Howard said the track would be a popular attraction for the school’s own pupils and others from the community, including users of the neighbouring Wanaka Recreation Centre.
The track was funded by grants from Central Lakes Trust, Otago Community Trust and the Lion Foundation, along with a board of trustees contribution.
The Friends of Take Karara School parent-teacher group fundraised for a set of scooters and helmets and a planned storage shed.
