The Central Otago District Council has taken another step in its long-running Cromwell Memorial Hall and Events Centre project and advertised for an architect.
Tenders from architects keen to design and manage the building contract close on November 1.
Cromwell Masterplan project manager Darren Penketh said the architect would also manage the demolition of the existing hall.
Mr Penketh said the council wanted credible providers who could deliver the best solution for the community at the best value for money, as well as connecting with the district’s values.
The design phase begins later this year with demolition, and construction of the new hall is scheduled to begin in mid-2022.
The architect will be working with an external stakeholder group on the design.
The group has been formed to ensure a cross-section of community views are heard and taken into account.
Five organisations have been invited to the stakeholders’ group: the Cromwell Cultural Centre Trust, the Cromwell Museum, the Cromwell Town & Country Club, the Fine Thyme Theatre Company and the Cromwell RSA.
