A proposed multipurpose community hub in Omakau will be discussed by the Vincent Community Board following a positive response from the public.
The project was the focus of a drop-in session in the town last Tuesday which 30 people attended.
Central Otago District Council community and engagement manager Paula Penno said the two-hour session, hosted by the Omakau Recreation Reserve committee and supported by council development staff, resulted in some ‘‘helpful and practical’’ feedback.
Among the factors discussed were site location and draft concept design for the building.
The Omakau Recreation Reserve is a favoured location for the hub.
It is expected to cost $3 million to be funded through a range of grants, community fundraisers and Vincent Community Board rates.
Fundraising has already started, which includes $31,000 from this year’s winter feed competition.
The project will be discussed by the community board at its December meeting.
‘‘In the meantime, Omakau recreation reserve committee will continue gathering community input on the project. Their goal is to develop a facility design and placement that will meet the current and future needs of the community.’’
