New homes in Cromwell, Wanaka and Cardrona took out several awards in a regional Master Builders competition.

The Southern Supreme House of the Year over $1 million category was won by a mansion built by Trinity QT Construction in Queenstown, which also scooped the New Home over $4 million category, among several others.

This year marked the introduction of a Supreme House of the Year under $1 million category, which aimed to recognise outstanding builds in a lower price bracket.

A Wanaka home by Buildcraft won the Southern House of the Year under $1 million. The judges said the architecturally designed home inspired genuine holiday living. The compact design delivered everything needed plus a little more, and also won the New Home $500,000-$750,000 category and a gold award

A home in Cromwell where the client was the builder’s parents won the Altus Window Systems New Home $750,000-$1 million category, and a gold award, for Arcbuild. The judges noted that constructing a retirement home for your parents might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but the result was a home that accommodated and catered to their changing lifestyle needs.

A home designed as one of six modern luxury units overlooking Lake Wanaka won the New Home $1.5 million-$2 million category, and a gold award, for Bayview Construction.

Dunlop Builders won the Resene New Home $2 million-$4 million category, APL Sustainable and Environmental Excellence Award and a gold award for a Wanaka home that featured clean lines, rammed earth walls, and subtle curved warm roofs.

Owens Building took out the Builders Own Home category and a gold award, for the home in Wanaka, which judges said highlighted the builder’s knowledge of his craft.

Stonewood Homes Central Otago won the Volume/Group Housing New Home $500K-$750K category, and a gold award, for a cedar and plaster-clad home in Wanaka positioned to make the most of the sun. Christie Brothers Building won the Master Build 10-year Guarantee Multi Unit (apartments/duplexes/terrace housing), and a gold award, for two double-storey apartments in Wanaka designed to enhance the lifestyles of those living in them.

Toitoi Holdings NZ, which built a lodge in Cardrona, won the Kitchen Excellence Award, Schneider Electric Smart Home Award, McKenzie & Willis Interior Design Award and a gold award, for the build.

Gold awards also went to Christie Brothers Building, Wanaka; Home Factor SI, Wanaka; IC Builders, Wanaka; and the Breen Construction Company, Tarras.
