Young anglers get hooked

Take a Kid Fishing is a long-standing tradition for Alexandra’s Miller family.

The family has spent the past 21 years taking part in the annual Alexandra District Club Fishing Section’s annual Take a Kid Fishing day.

Last weekend was no exception as the Miller children lined up alongside the irrigation pond at Dunstan Hills Orchard, with their dad, Ed Miller.

He said the family first took part when the event was hosted at Butchers Dam.

“We were out there for a couple of years, then as the family has grown we’ve been here every year February, here we come.”

More often they not, they catch a fish.

“One year we won the family prize heap of goodies.”

Mr Miller said it was great to see children in the outdoors enjoying themselves, particularly when they hooked a fish.

The club’s fishing section president Glen van den Yssell said 126 children took part last weekend, along with their parents.

Many lined the side of the pond with deck chairs, where they soaked up the atmosphere and sunshine.
