Today’s annual Christmas Food Bank Drive in Wanaka has been cancelled, but organisers are still encouraging the community to contribute.
Christmas Food Bank Drive co-ordinator Nikki McKay said the street collection had run for 13 years but had to be called off with wet and windy conditions forecast.
“We don’t want any of our volunteers to be put in danger, so we’ve had to call off the Wanaka street collection for the first time since 2007, which is a real shame.
“But that shouldn’t stop people contributing.”
Instead they were asking people to bring donations to the new Community Hub on McDougall St.
