Enjoying freshly baked bread, made by baker and Jimmy’s Pies owner Dennis Kirkpatrick at the Millers Flat Bakehouse, are Haast Primary School pupils (from left) Scott Norton (12), Tessa Norton (12), Lily Kain (11), Miro Gurney (10), Michael Afan (12), Rata Gurney (13) and Billie Nixon (12).

The children, school principal and teacher Michelle Green and parents, including former Millers Flat residents Lindsay Kain and his wife Myreen, were on a four-day school trip to Dunedin and stopped in Millers Flat and Roxburgh on their way home.

Mr Kirkpatrick had baked seven large traditional loaves in the Bakehouse’s antique oven in Millers Flat and each pupil received one.

They then stopped at the Jimmy’s Pies shop in Roxburgh to see the automated baking machines and try the pies. PHOTO: YVONNE O’HARA
