New festival to prioritise wellness via creative arts

Artists and crafts people are being sought for the inaugural Holsym festival, to be held later this year.

Organiser Angela Connell said the festival ‘‘would have wellness at the forefront, using creative arts as a mode of delivery’’.

‘‘It is a community learning experience with participation in the arts, which is accessible, fun, enjoyable and interactive’’.

Ms Connell, who operates Flow Space yoga studio, said she was passionate about being in this community.

‘‘I wanted to find ways to celebrate who we are, how we live, where we are and each other.’’

Indoor workshops planned include singing, theatresports, dance and wellbeing classes.

Outdoor activities include an aerial cabaret and skills workshop, zen walking nature meditation, open mic poetry and music and dance.

‘‘I am making use of the people we have here in our community.

‘‘It is a chance to celebrate our people and help each other connect.

‘‘That is something really powerful.

‘‘People can learn a diverse range of ways to interact with the arts without being artists themselves and to support their own wellbeing.’’

People going to the family oriented festival are encouraged to bring their own plastic-free picnics, or they can buy food and beverages from the stalls.
