Omakau’s fire officers and community were in celebration mode on Saturday, when a new first response unit was handed over to the Omakau Fire Brigade.
The handover was the feature event at an open day at the Omakau Fire Station, during which members of the public could look around the station and displays and fire safety demonstrations were held.
Omakau Chief Fire Officer Ian Rietveld said it was a “great feeling” to have the $55,000 first response unit handed over. The vehicle and its equipment were bought with funds raised by the fire brigade and other donations from the Omakau community.
Mr Rietveld said the Omakau open day was a good chance for the public to view recent station modifications and upgrade work.
He said the Omakau Fire Brigade had continued strong support from the wider community, and thanked the groups and individuals who provided support, the employers who supported their staff who attended incidents during work time, and all the men and women in the brigade.
