The proposed 3000sq m Countdown supermarket in Centennial Ave, in Alexandra, is a step closer.

However, more information has been requested by the Central Otago District Council before the resource consent application process can move forward.

Countdown property general manager Jason Stockill said CPD 2012 Ltd, the developer they were working with on the project, had made the original consent submission at the end of January.

“Council has requested additional information be submitted [planning application section 92 request] before they’re able to make a decision,” Mr Stockill said.

“We’re working with the developer to work through the council’s requests and are in the process of submitting additional information.”

Countdown had indicated earlier this year it hoped to build a new supermarket and car park in Alexandra, subject to resource consent.

The proposed site is between Centennial Ave and Ventry St, north of the Centennial Court Motor Inn. Nine tenanted houses on the land have been acquired.
