Jessica Lake of Alexandra has won silver for high jump at the recent South Island Colgate Games in Timaru. Jessica said she was hoping to place and was “very, very relieved” when she picked up silver. Her technique is to use visualisation. “I see the mat, see the bar, and see myself going over it,” Jessica said. Her goal is to go to the Olympics one day. Alexandra Athletics Club secretary Jo Calder said it was a great achievement. “Jessica is very driven and focused,” Mrs Calder said. Mother Tina Lake was very proud of her daughter, saying she practised often. The next event in Jessica’s calendar will be the Otago Championships, in Dunedin on February 24 and 25.
