Dunstan High School led the charge among Central Otago and Upper Clutha secondary schools competing in the annual Maadi Cup rowing regatta last week.

It was a gold medal performance for Pipi Horan winning the girls’ U17 single sculls.

She followed that success by pairing with Sophie Smith in the U18 doubles to win a silver medal.

The Maadi Cup regatta is the national championships for school rowing in New Zealand.

Run by the New Zealand Secondary Schools Rowing Association and Rowing New Zealand, it is New Zealand’s largest rowing regatta, alternating annually between Lake Karapiro in Cambridge and Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel.

The 2022 championships were held at Lake Ruataniwha from March 28 to April 2 with April 3 as a spare day.
