Mountain Bikers of Alexandra have completed the circle on their cycling and mountain bike trail at Boot Hill.
President Joe Sherriff said the trail began near the holiday park and Elim Church in Tarbert St, and headed to the top of the hill behind Alexandra Cemetery.
“There is one route that goes right up to the top of the hill, along the top to the town reservoir right on top.”
The trail then circled around the side of the hill by the cemetery creating a complete loop.
“We’ve now got about 6km of continuous riding.”
The trail had been designed to work for a wide range of ages.
“It is basically easy, but for the beginner there are a few slightly tricky bits on it.”
There was nothing that could not be overcome “with a little bit of practice”.
The trail had been a success since it was established five years ago, with hundreds of people enjoying it, he said.
“You see quite a lot of people up here, walkers, bikers out for a twirl.”
School pupils had also enjoyed using it after school.
A five-year extension to the original agreement with the Central Otago District Council was due to be approved in a few months’ time.
“We are just in the process of renewing the five-year memorandum of understanding.”
Plans for a new series of races along the trail were being finalised. The first race was anticipated in about a month, Sherriff said.
