Wanaka waterskiers performed strongly at the Bannockburn Slalom last weekend, as they prepare for the New Zealand National Waterski Championships at Lake Crichton, Dunsandel, from March 22-27.

A field of 25 competed on Bannockburn Inlet.

Gerald Harraway put up a good fight in the Senior Men’s 2 category against Chris Brown (Timaru) and Steve Wayne (Christchurch) to place third in his event.

New Zealand open women’s representative Meg Harraway posted an excellent score of 3 buoys on the 12m line in her first tournament of the season.

Wanaka’s Katrina Wallis won the under-14 girls division with a personal best of 4 buoys at 52kmh. She finished two courses ahead of twin sister and second placegetter Genevieve, who also scored a personal best of 4 buoys at 46kmh.

Other Wanaka skiers Dean Morrision and Katrina Pollard skied consistently over the three rounds.

Club spokeswoman Carrie Wallis said the tournament was an important fixture in the preparation for the New Zealand National Waterski Championships.

The club supports and encourages waterskiers and welcomes more members to join.
