Alexandra’s BMX riders battled on their home track to 20 first places at the Central Otago Champs and Mainland South Region Champs at the weekend.
More than 150 riders took part in the competition over two days, some travelling from as far as Auckland to take part.
Alexandra BMX Club president Tony Nelsonthe club’s riders performed extremely well, with many wins and placings.
“It was a very successful weekend. We are really proud of the results and it will now be a big build to South Islands in January.”
Both the Christchurch-based LKI and Bombshell Dalliston teams competed at the weekend.
It was great to have riders from Christchurch take part, Nelson said.
He said there had been a great turnout of spectators enjoying the action at the event.
The Mainland South v Mainland North Inter-region Challenge had been a big drawcard for riders and spectators at the weekend.
There were eight riders from the Alexandra BMX Club who took part in the challenge, which Mainland North won.
There were still three more of the inter-region challenge races to be held later in the season, Nelson said.
“We’ll be looking for redemption. We [Mainland South] hold the trophy and we’re not too keen to give it up.”
Hosting the two events had been a big task for the Alexandra club, but members had really stepped up to make it happen, Nelson said.
“I couldn’t be more happy as president with the outcome of all the riders and the effort of the club making it so successful.”
