Junior freestyle nationals

Wanaka locals showed their skills at the junior freestyle nationals, which began on Monday at Cardrona.

Competitors in under-8 to under-18 age categories took part in the skier cross and snowboard freeride on Monday.

Kazuma Saka, of Wanaka, crossed the finish line only .01sec before Joe Cookson, of Darfield, in the under-12 boys seeding rounds, and Campbell Melville-Ives, of Wanaka, won the under-14 boys snowboard cross.

Also proving the talent of local athletes was Amy Benson, of Wanaka, who won the under-12 girls ski cross.

On Tuesday, competitors took part in the freeride while snowboarders raced the gravity cross course.

Aiden Fitzpatrick, of Wanaka, won the boys under-12 ski freeride, and Logan Millar, of Wanaka, was winner of the boys under-10 competition.
