Budding basketballers will get a chance to shine on court while also perfecting their skills in Alexandra next month.
Alexandra Junior Basketball Club (AJBC) will host a two-day basketball camp during the school holidays, on July 8-9.
Club president Jolanda Williams said the event, which was designed to benefit the wider community, particularly young people, was planned because of the sport’s increased popularity across the region.
She said the sessions would feature a wide range of skills taught by Jacob Dudley, a United States intern who is based with Basketball Otago.
Central Otago Junior Basketball representatives will also assist, along with local coaches. Volunteers from a range of other community groups will also provide participants with a “unique experience” over the two days, Williams said.
The event will be hosted at Dunstan High School and Molyneux Indoor Centre, simultaneously.
“Six highly experienced coaches and local volunteers will be introducing the participants to a variety of learning situations, games and competitions.”
Participants and their parents are encouraged to provide feedback following the camp to assist the planning of any future sporting and education events.
Williams said the event was the first of its kind for Central Otago, that she was aware of, and had been made possible by a range of sponsors.
“The AJBC wishes to take this opportunity to thank these local businesses for their generous and consistent support for sport development, in particular and for the community in general.”
She said the camp’s organising committee was looking forward to working with young basketballers and providing them with the opportunity to experience a challenging and enjoyable programme.Nike air jordan SneakersSneakers
