Good dogs good for community

Patting huntaways Angus (left) and Ned at Omakau Earnscleugh Collie Club’s annual trial at Earnscleugh Station on Monday are (from left) Central Otago Mayor Tim Cadogan, club president Elliott Heckler and New Zealand Sheep Dog Trial Association North Otago Centre president Robbie Calder.

The centre is set to host the South Island Championships on the station in May.

Mr Cadogan said the championships would be “massive for the local community”.

“They bring people, those people bring money and a lot of them stay on, or return, and that’s very important.”

Mr Calder, of St Bathans, said the championships could attract more than 200 competitors and about 500 dogs.
