Golf club fundraisers total almost $370,000

Youngsters are set to benefit to the tune of $23,500 from the Wanaka Golf Club’s latest fundraising tournament.

The money was raised during the club’s annual fundraising tournament last weekend, an event which has this year benefited the Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust.

The trust supports families who are finding it difficult to meet the costs associated with their children’s health needs.

Each year, the golf club calls for registered charities to apply.

The chosen charity then works as the fundraiser, organising raffles and big-ticket items to be auctioned off during the three-day tournament.

Club manager Kim Badger said the club ultimately provided the platform, while the charity did the work.

“We get the people there.”

The club has hosted the event since 2004 and in that time has raised almost $370,000.

“It’s around $20,000 to $25,000 usually that’s raised each year.”

Last week’s auction featured a range of items and activities including paintings, accommodation, pamper packages and tennis lessons among much more.

Trust chairman Dave Evans was impressed with the outcome and grateful for the support received.

“We were very excited lot of money. A lot of that was from raffles and auction items.”

He said the Wanaka Golf Club also donated $5000 to the cause.

“That’s extremely generous and was unexpected from us.”
