Girls’ basketball coach
Dunstan High School offered up a triple thread in the finals of the Alexandra basketball club competition on Friday night (August 31).
Dunstan had a team in each of the three finals in what turned out to be an exciting night of basketball.
First up it was Dunstan B in the B Grade final against Cromwell College.
A match posted to be a close contest ended in disappointment for the Dunstan side.
Cromwell College took control from the start and pressured the local side into errors.
Cromwell’s Bailey Scott finished the game with 37 points as the college team won 61-33.
In a break with tradition, the men played the curtain-raiser for the women.
Dunstan A Boys contested the final against Hawks.
Dunstan took an early lead, finishing the first half with a lead of 33-22.
Midway through the second half, Hawks rallied and closed to within four points before Dunstan pulled away again to take the title by 58-48.
For Dunstan, Beau Meehan contributed 16 points while Nic O’Donnel-Fluit posted a further 13.
In the main game, it was Dunstan A Girls facing Monteith’s Molyneux.
These two teams have contested the finals for the past three years, with Molyneux winning the last two, leaving Dunstan with a point to prove this year.
Dunstan started strongly and took an early lead, finishing the first half up by 22-12.
But Molyneux was not about to throw in the towel and became more assertive in the second half.
It fought back to level the score at 26-26, before Dunstan’s Tyla O’Neill grabbed control and sunk two consecutive three-pointers.
This proved to be too much to come back from and Dunstan went on to win the title 43-36.
Dunstan’s success was built on the back of solid defence and the dominance of its senior trio of Breigh Monaghan (captain – 13 points), Tyla O’Neill (14 points, including three 3’s) and Suzie Morrow (9 points).
For Molyneux, Fiona King scored 14 points and Sophie van Velthooven 12.Adidas footwearNike Tn Pas Cher, Nike Tn Soldes – nike tn pas cher
