The sun was hot and the colour was gold for members of the Dunstan Arm Rowing Club at the South Island rowing championships, held at Lake Ruataniwha last weekend.
Dunstan’s girls’ under-15 coxed octuple sculls won the gold medal after finishing the course in 7 minutes 20.41 seconds.
The women’s’ novice coxed quad sculls also won gold at 7 minutes 58.69 seconds.
Quentin Annan won the men’s masters single sculls (1000m) at 4 minutes 01.98 seconds.
Simon Smith who is also coach for the Dunstan club, took away gold in the men’s senior single sculls at 7 minutes and 44.27 seconds.
Overall the Dunstan club won eight gold, five silver and two bronze awards at the championships.
Rata Horan (15), of the Wanaka Rowing Club, also had a good weekend, winning silver for the girls’ under-16 single sculls in 8 minutes 51.45 seconds.
Thirteen junior rowers, all students at Mount Aspiring College, attended last weekend’s South Island Championships at Lake Ruataniwha with coaches Rob Bruce and Matt Rickard.
