Three Central Otago sports people have been named finalists in the 56th Halberg Awards.

Para alpine skier Adam Hall (31), of Wanaka, who won gold and bronze medals at the Paralympic Winter Games, is among the line-up, alongside freeskier Nico Porteous (17), also of Wanaka, who won a bronze medal at the Winter Olympics.

Also in the running is Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (17), of Wanaka, who claimed a bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games for snowboarding.

Nico and Zoi have also been named finalists for New Zealand’s Favourite Sporting Moment of the Year award, after they both received medals at the Olympic Winter Games within two hours of each other.

Halberg Award judges reviewed a record 93 nominations to make up the finalists list, which recognises achievements in 2018 up to November 30.

The winners will be named at the awards on February 21.
