Alexandra has been named as the host for the BMX South Island titles in 2020.
The games will be held on the Alexandra BMX track at Molyneux Park.
Co-ordinator for Mainland South BMX Carole Gillions said Alexandra had hosted the event previously, in 2009 and 2015.
“At the 2015 games, 350 riders plus their families came, with well over 1000 people at the event,” Ms Gillions said.
Alexandra BMX Club president Tony Nelson was delighted the club had secured the South Island titles.
The club was hoped to raise up to $120,000 to make improvements to the track.
The improvements would include moving the ramp and one of the corners to bring it more in line with BMX New Zealand guidelines, reducing some of the hills to make the track safer and sealing the berms to make it easier to maintain.
There had been no major work on the track for more than seven years, Mr Nelson said.
“We have put forward our plans to the [Central Otago District] council and are waiting back to hear from them,” he said.
“The next step for us is to secure the nationals, so we want to have a track that will help make that happen,” he said.
