When it it comes to winemaking, Jordan Moores is leading the way among his peers.
The Valli Wines assistant winemaker was named 2021 Central Otago Young Winemaker of the Year last week.
Mr Moores competed against seven of the regions best winemakers in the Tonnellerie de Mercurey Young Winemaker of the Year Competition.
New Zealand Winegrowers leadership and community manager Nicky Grandorge said the competition included a range of challenges designed to test industry skills and understanding, including wine industry knowledge, tasting, blending, marketing and laboratory skills.
Mr Moores was “thrilled” to have won the title.
He will compete in the national final in November, taking on finalists from the Marlborough and North Island competitions.
The final is being held in Central Otago for the first time.
But before then he planned to to take a well-deserved rest.
“I’m going to give myself the weekend off and then get back into the study and preparation. It’s really exciting to be going through.”
The competition aimed to help young winemakers build confidence and make a name for themselves in the wine industry, Ms Grandorge said.
