Submissions are being sought on the resource consent application for a proposal to build a Countdown supermarket in Alexandra.

Submitters have until 4pm on June 26 to send their views to the Central Otago District Council.

The applicant, local developer CPD 2012 Ltd, is working with Countdown, which is part of the Woolworths New Zealand group of supermarkets.

The proposed 3000sq m supermarket is to be built at 102-110 Centennial Ave through to 59-63 Ventry St, Alexandra.

Nine houses are to be demolished or relocated.

The proposal includes 135sq m of rooftop plant and equipment, as well as landscaping, 114 car parks, a service vehicle area, 175sq m of signage, in addition to security fence, exterior lighting and cycle rails.

The advertisement in last week’s The News also said service vehicles would access the site from Ventry St and approach from Matau St.

That means parts of those streets would be made no-stopping areas to facilitate access for heavy vehicles.

Countdown head of property Matt Grainger said they were aware the council publicly notified the resource consent application last week.

‘‘We look forward to continuing to work through the resource consent application process with the council and CPD 2012 Ltd.

CODC planning manager David Campbell said following the submission period closing, he anticipated a hearing in August this year.
