Anzac Day commemorations are likely to be the last community event to be held at the existing Cromwell Memorial Hall – Covid-19 restrictions allowing – as the Cromwell Memorial Hall and Events Centre project prepares to progress to the next stage.

The project’s investigation phase started last month with stakeholder workshops and meetings between Christchurch architecture and design practice Jasmax, the project advisory group and project team members.

Jasmax also met representatives from the Cromwell RSA, Cromwell Museum and Old Cromwell Inc and the Cromwell Town & Country Club, and is scheduled to meet representatives from the Cromwell Cultural Centre Trust and Fine Thyme Theatre Company.

Cromwell Masterplan project manager Darren Penketh said many interesting discussions had taken place during the sessions and he was excited to see what Jasmax returned with after the next round of workshops later this month.

The next round of workshops will focus on site constraints and opportunities; benchmarking and building accommodation requirements; and the technical, functional and operational requirements.

Demolition is scheduled to start in the second half of the year and the Cromwell Memorial Hall will be closed from May 2.
