Graffiti and property damage around Alexandra have irked a local man, who says “that’s not what this town is about”.

Jayden Toth has noticed several acts of vandalism around Alexandra in the past couple of months and said he is getting sick of it.

He said graffiti on and near Chicago St was just some of the vandalism he had noticed recently, which also included damaged and vandalised cars.

“There’s been nothing like this around this town for a long time. Seeing it on my way to work p . . . me off a bit.”

Mike Coutts co-owns the cool stores on Chicago St and confirmed the business had been tagged with silver spray paint.

While he said the tagging was annoying, he did not think vandalism was a major problem in Alexandra.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen graffiti [before] in Alexandra.”

He had not notified the police of the tagging.

Sergeant Matt Alley said in a statement that tagging was not a common occurrence in Alexandra and police had not noted any increase in reports of tagging recently.

He encouraged anyone with concerns about this type of behaviour to contact police as vandalism was often difficult to solve without prompt reporting and information from the public.
