Pilots from near and far will take to the skies above Alexandra this week as part of the next Flying New Zealand competition.
The Central Otago Flying Club, based at Alexandra Airport, will host the Lakes Area Regional Rally on behalf of Flying New Zealand on November 9.
Organisers hope to attract entrants from far and wide, including South Canterbury and Southland.
About five from the Alexandra area will be among those competing.
Club captain Kurt Verduyn was hoping for at least 30 competitors and many more spectators, who were welcome to watch the day’s events.
He said while the club had made an effort to get as many people as possible competing, there was just as much of a drive to get people from the wider community to visit the club.
Spectators can use the day to explore what opportunities there are to fly locally, or to just watch the competitions take place.
A presentation evening will also take place on the Saturday at the Alexandra Districts Club after the competitions.
