It seems there is no limit to what you can create using felt.

Art pieces, clothing and a 3-D underwater scene, 2m by 2m in size, are among the creations from 14 exhibitors at the “Felt Friendz” exhibition at the Dunedin Community Gallery.

Creative fibre artist and exhibition convener Gill Shaw, of Central Otago, said those involved in the show had been thrilled with the turnout since it began on Tuesday.

“It has been well beyond our expectations — we have just been overwhelmed by people’s responses — it is such a warm feeling.”

Much of the felt work exhibited was not what people would usually expect from the textile, she said.

“People are just blown away.

“They stand there and put their hands in the air and just say ‘Wow, I never thought you could do that with felt’.”
