A Kurow orchard compliance manager has won the Central Otago Young Fruitgrower of the Year title.

Ellen Watt, who works on her family’s Waitaki Orchards, near Kurow, said she was “stoked” to win the competition.

South Canterbury and North Otago growers were included in the Central Otago area as the nearest other competition is in Nelson.

Ms Watt will represent the region at the national 2019 Young Grower of the Year competition in Tauranga on October 1 and 2.

Tim Officer, who is a harvest manager at Dunstan Hills orchard, in Alexandra, came second and Lyssa Jones, of MA Orchards, in Timaru, was third.
