In an investiture ceremony held at the Christchurch Town Hall last Friday , Billie Tohill, of Earnscleugh, was awarded a Queen’s Service Medal, in recognition for her volunteer service to the community.
She is pictured above with the Governor General Dame Patsy Reddy.
Mrs Tohill has belonged to the Central Otago Pony Club since 1957 and is current district commissioner and former head instructor.
She co-founded the Clyde Pony Club, established in 1959, and has been coach, president, and secretary.
She has been involved with the Clyde Theatre Group since 1947 and has been a musical director for the Alexandra Musical Society for many productions. She was an organiser and musical director for the Alexandra Blossom Festival Senior Queen event.
She has been an organist for Alexandra’s St John the Baptist Church for more than 60 years. Mrs Tohill provides musical therapy for people with intellectual disabilities through Living Options in Alexandra. PHOTO: OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR GENERAL
