Cherries were enthusiastically thrown, squished and celebrated during the annual Cherry Chaos festival in Roxburgh on Sunday evening, despite the heavy and cold rain.

Although participants outnumbered spectators, those who took part in the chaos still had a lot of fun.

Event manager Martin McPherson said he enjoyed his first Cherry Chaos.

“My initial feeling was that it would not have happened because of the [bad] weather, but people rocked on up and had a ball,” Mr McPherson said.

He said he was pleased to see a good turnout of people taking part in the timed obstacle course event, complete with enthusiastic cherry-throwing from the sidelines.

Packhouses and orchards fielded 26 teams of six, and the Melrose Orchard team won for the second time in a row.

The Remarkables Orchard team won the mixed team competition, while the Random team won the junior section and the Berry Birds won the women’s section.
