Water was flung in all directions in Alexandra earlier this week, providing a welcome escape from the district’s summer temperatures.
About 50 children gathered at Alexandra Primary School on Monday afternoon, keen to take part in a community-based water fight.
The event, hosted by Alexandra Out of School Care Holiday Programme, in conjunction with Puna Rangatahi, was a hit with the youngsters.

Programme co-ordinator Kath Martin said it was a chance for participants to enjoy each other’s company, away from their devices.
Water fights have been a regular activity for the group, which specialises in “structured free time”.
“It’s kids having fun. We just keep them safe and have a fun day, that’s our job and it works and the kids are cool.”
