Cultural diversity will be celebrated in Alexandra next week.
A potluck dinner, designed to bring people of all ethnicities together, will be hosted at Dunstan High School’s whare on January 22.
The initiative arose from the Alexandra Council of Social Services hui, which was held in 2019.
A group, made up of various community representatives, was formed following the hui to support cultural groups within Alexandra.
Meetings followed, which were attended by people from 11 different countries, but when Covid-19 hit, events came to a halt.
Central Otago District Council community development officer Nikki Aaron said plans were now under way to bring people of all ethnic backgrounds together again.
She said anyone could attend the event, which would include live music.
‘‘The idea is to bring a dish to share, from your home country.
‘‘It will be a relaxed opportunity for people to come together, make connections and talk about what sorts of activities or events they would like to see happening in Alexandra for different cultural groups.’’
The event will start at 5.30pm.
