Four important streams make up this year’s Alexandra Thyme Festival, which focuses on arts, craft, wellbeing and sustainability under the general theme of cherishing our environment.
The annual festival provided dozens of opportunities to try something new and people were being encouraged to take a look at what was available, festival committee chairwoman and Central Otago sustainable living programme co-ordinator Clair Higginson said.
Organisers listened to feedback and suggestions from the community each year and tried to provide new ways in each festival to engage with the community, Ms Higginson said.
A key focus was trying events at different times and on different days of the week to target different types of people – for example, those who were in the workforce, at school or retired – and it was hoped the festival was accessible to all and there would be “something for everyone”, she said.
“What we’re trying to do is invite everyone to the festival. We encourage all ages and demographics to take part. Everyone from the community is welcome.”
