Recipients of this year’s Central Lakes Trust $2500 tertiary scholarships celebrated their success after an awards ceremony in Cromwell last week.

Fifty pupils from eight schools received the scholarships, which assist pupils going on to study at a tertiary institution. In the 12 years the programme has been running, scholarships to 434 young people worth $1,051,500 have been given out by the trust.

This year’s awards ceremony featured a speech from Jake Bailey, the 2015 Christchurch Boys’ head prefect whose presentation to pupils that year, days after he found out he was diagnosed with stage four Burkitt non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, went viral the world over.
