Covid-19 may be the grinch that stole many Christmas events this year, but Central Otago plans to spit at it – and compete for how far.
The National Cherry Stone Spitting Championships will go ahead on December 28 at The Gate, in Barry Ave, Cromwell.
Entry is open to all and registrations start at 11.30am.
Cromwell and Districts Promotion Group marketing and communications manager Marion Low said the championships and a colouring competition were the only parts of the Cherry Festival that would go ahead this year, but the quirky competition was always a hit with locals and visitors alike.
Entry is free but a gold coin donation from visitors would be welcomed.
