RSA Bowling Club Alexandra last month gave $3000 to the St John Central Otago Health Shuttle, the club’s 16th consecutive year of supporting community initiatives.

Club president John Robertson said $2000 was raised through a tournament in February, with the affiliate Alexandra District Club donating a further $1000.

The club had been running the tournament since the 2006/07 season, and had been supported well throughout, Mr Robertson said.

“People know the money is going to something they may need,” he said.

Health shuttle joint team leader Shirley Dunick said the service ferried people from Central Otago to and from medical-related appointments in Dunedin.

“All our drivers are volunteers and we aim to give a higher level of care than one would get on a public service,” she said.

Because St John is a charity, the shuttle service would not survive without donations, Mrs Dunick said.

“We’re very grateful for the support from the RSA Bowling Club and everybody in the community.”
