Anyone wanting a trip to Wanaka with $10,000 in their back pocket need look no further than a new film competition.

Lake Wanaka Tourism and Film Queenstown Lakes have teamed up with the Australian media house Monster Children Group to create Short Stories, a new short film award.

The first prize also includes filmmaking gear, a production budget and a mentor to help make another short film while in town.

The theme for entries is “A Sense of Place”, with no limit on where that place might be.

Lake Wanaka Tourism marketing and communications manager Gizelle Regan said it was a departure from traditional tourism marketing campaigns “to a model that takes a more holistic approach . . . creates a powerful connection between people and place and supports the economic diversity of the district by highlighting the depth and breadth of the local film industry”.

Entries close on April 22 (details on the Monster Children website).
