The new Roxburgh swimming pool is a step closer to becoming a reality after receiving further funding to the tune of $500,000.
The sizeable capital grant was approved by the Otago Community Trust at its August board meeting last week.
Roxburgh Pool Punawai Ora “Safe Water” Inc chairwoman Sally Feinerman said the 89-year-old pool at the rear of Roxburgh Area School had reached its use-by date.
hanks to the $500,000 grant from the trust, in combination with $920,766 from Central Lakes Trust, $200,000 from the Ida MacDonald Charitable Trust and a commitment of $500,000 from the Central Otago District Council the new pool was within reach of its funding target, Ms Feinerman said.
“We have an application in with Lotteries [Lottery Community grants], so we are hopeful that this will also be successful and that we can reach our final fundraising target of $2.5million.”
Otago Community Trust chairman Diccon Sim said the trust was pleased to support to the much-needed redevelopment of the community swimming pool.
The Roxburgh pool had served its community well, but it was now time for a modern facility to take its place, Mr Sim said.
In total the Otago Community Trust approved just over $799,000 to 32 organisations in August.
