Racing for jamboree

They have been working hard since last year to raise the funds needed to attend the 21st New Zealand Scout jamboree in Marlborough, and now Cromwell Scouts are hoping they have not gone quacking mad as they prepare for their next major money-raising venture, the annual Duck Race to be held as part of the Cromwell Mall Midwinter Party on Saturday, July 16.
Club secretary Chris Hughes said Cromwell scouts were part of the Central Otago ‘‘Bunny Busters’’ troop that included Alexandra and Queenstown scout clubs.
‘‘Each troop can send 36 scouts and their leaders to jamboree which takes place every three years,’’ Mrs Hughes said.
There were 32 from the Central Lakes area, including 16 from Cromwell set to attend with their 10 leaders. It would be ‘‘the experience of their scouting time’’, she said.
The club had been ‘‘working hard’’ since the end of last year to raise the funds.
Alexandra Scouts were also fundraising for the jamboree, mainly selling sheep manure, club spokeswoman Kathryn Sutherland said. – People wanting to help the clubs can contact Cromwell on 027 425-6919 or Alexandra on 0274 footwearjordan Release Dates
