A market showcasing local produce will take place in Cromwell from next week.

The market, to take place in the car park near Five Stags and Super Liquor in Barry Ave each Thursday from June 25, is part of the events already hosted in Wanaka on Wednesdays and Alexandra on Fridays.

Founder and markets coordinator Adrienne Lamb said plans to expand the market concept were based on feedback, particularly from people who often wished they could get to the Wanaka and Alexandra events, but could not because they worked in Cromwell.

Mrs Lamb had planned to start the Cromwell market in April, but due to Covid-19 it was put on hold.

Now it is all go as Cromwell’s launch date nears closer.

‘‘It means people can park if they’ve only got a lunch hour. They can buy their lunch and produce and go again.’’

The aim of the markets, each of which would take place from 11am to 2pm, was to provide people with produce that is fresh and in-season.

The idea behind having the events throughout the week was to help stall holders get to other markets through the weekends if they wanted to, or so they could still spend weekends with their families.

Mrs Lamb said more stall holders were welcome to join the various markets and she encouraged them to approach her for advice and support.

‘‘We want to mentor people into becoming stall holders as well,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s a nice environment that’s a real community-driven one.’’
